Quick overview of the 2007 changes to the start/finish straight at Imola

It’s been great to see Imola back on the F1 calendar these past two seasons. It’s one of my favourite circuits.

Someone was asking me if the track differs from the last time F1 raced there in 2006, and it has. I wont go into the whole raft of changes post 1994 because they’re extensively detailed elsewhere, I just wanted to do a quick sketch of how the start finish straight used to be, overlaid onto the current Google Maps view.

So you can see how a new, larger pit building was added by straightlining the Variante Bassa chicane. There is still an optional chicane which I believe is used for motorcycle races.
